Our client lives in Monaco, in complete contrast to the relaxed Byron Bay lifestyle she set out to create by the beach in Australia. We first met by telephone, before she travelled to Byron Bay a few months later and we walked the land with her, imagining together what life there could become. Later that day, Rob spent three hours sketching the first design, responding instinctively and honestly to the land and the client's vision. That momentum continued in Monaco, where ideas were developed together with confidence and all furniture for the residence was selected in a single day.
The architecture is centred around a generous pavilion that balances grandeur with intimacy. From the moment of arrival, expansive volumes draw you inward before giving way to quieter, more personal spaces that encourage moments of retreat and reflection. As the home opens towards the landscape, the boundaries between architecture and nature gradually dissolve, allowing light, sea breezes and gardens to become part of everyday life.
Two carefully positioned pavilions provide private accommodation for parents and future generations, while independent guest suites ensure family and friends can gather with comfort and ease. Throughout the residence, everyday functions are carefully concealed, allowing the architecture to remain calm, effortless and uncompromised.
