Architecture has the ability to create a powerful first impression, but its greatest achievement is how it makes us feel once we step inside. This home balances strength with generosity, creating spaces that are both bold and deeply welcoming.

Brighton Residence began with a remarkable opportunity: a generous parcel of land and a client prepared to explore the full potential of contemporary residential architecture. Rather than occupying the centre of the site, the home is carefully positioned to one side, allowing landscape to become an equal partner in the architectural composition.
This deliberate planning establishes a powerful relationship between building, garden and pool, creating generous outdoor spaces that are experienced as extensions of the home itself. The result is a residence where architecture and landscape work together to create an environment that feels expansive, connected and distinctly Australian in the way it embraces outdoor living.
The architecture is defined by clarity, proportion and sculptural confidence. A carefully composed concrete form establishes a strong architectural presence, while subtle curves, deep recesses and precisely framed openings introduce moments of softness and light throughout the day.
Rather than relying on decoration, the architecture celebrates the inherent beauty of its materials and the quality of the spaces they create. The dramatic double-height entry, sweeping curved walls, circular skylight and signature spiral staircase combine to create an experience that unfolds gradually, revealing new perspectives and changing patterns of light with every movement through the home.
Great design should strengthen our connection to the place in which we live. Brighton Residence was conceived to embrace the character of Brighton, encouraging a way of living that extends naturally between home, garden and community. More than a contemporary residence, it is a place where family life unfolds, memories are made and everyday experiences are quietly enriched through thoughtful design. Light & Shadow created by the pure forms & spaces between the forms elevate this residence to a place between gallery and residential home. The design was a true reflection of our client’s character and ambitions.
Delivering homes of this complexity requires discipline as much as creativity. Through comprehensive documentation, integrated consultant coordination and clear communication throughout every stage of the project, RMA provides clients with confidence in both the process and the outcome. This considered approach protects design quality while creating momentum, reducing uncertainty and supporting a seamless transition into construction.
The things we choose to live with become part of the story of our lives. A favourite chair, a work of art, an object discovered while travelling or something passed from one generation to the next can hold meaning far beyond its function. We believe a home should make space for these things and allow new memories to gather around them. Furniture, art and objects are therefore never simply the finishing touches. They help transform architecture into something deeply personal: a home that could belong to no one else.
